Who Can Have A Lottery?
Before even considering starting your own lottery, one of the first questions you may ask is “Who can have a lottery?” Whilst lotteries are a great fundraising tool for societies, there are rules on who can and cannot run a lottery.
Non-Commercial Societies
Lotteries are a fantastic method for societies to raise funds for their cause. However, there are certain restrictions on which organisations are allowed to run a lottery, strictly for non-profit and non-commercial good causes. Only non-commercial societies and licensed external lottery managers may promote society lotteries, any other form of lottery is illegal.
However this simply means that lotteries are only available to help and support good causes, so if you need to raise funds then don’t let this put you off – whether you are raising money for a non-profit children’s football team, an animal rescue centre, your local rugby team, a medical charity or any other non-profit organisation, then a lottery could be perfect for your organisation!
