Introducing The Improving Lives Lottery

Improving Lives are one of our most recent societies to start their lottery fundraising journey. We are extremely excited to work with Improving Lives as they as offer a wide range of support for the most vulnerable Nottingham City residents. We spoke to Josh from Improving Lives to find out more about the charity and their plans for their lottery.

About Improving Lives

Improving Lives Notts was first set up in 2012 as a registered charity providing wide-ranging support to the most vulnerable Nottingham City residents.

We work with Nottingham City residents to provide support services tailored to their individual needs. We work in partnership with many services to support adults with complex health and social needs to manage the challenges they face misuse more effectively. Our support is around, but not limited to, debt and benefits, housing issues, offending, domestic violence, substances and being a victim of crime.

The Future For Improving Lives

Our current referral criteria are restricted: so we are only able to offer much of our support to people who are referred by mental health services or the national probation service.

We would like to widen our support to accept referrals from GPs or self referrals in the future, and build our fundraising to be able to achieve this.

We have a four social groups which have grown from one; people we support can now meet their peers in a safe environment to pursue activities they enjoy. We would like to continue to develop and innovate with our groups in tandem with what the people we support want to do.

What Are The Fundraising Goals For Improving Lives?

We would like to fundraise to allow us to continue to fund our groups: we currently take trips and excursions which many of the people we support would not have the means to do. We run an art group as well as a craft group which both require rooms, materials and staff time to be able to go ahead.

Given the situation with Coronavirus we now realise more than ever the importance of developing a workshop or 1 to 1 training to provide digital awareness training to some of the people we support.  This would be of huge value given social distancing restrictions and the need to embrace digital solutions to reduce social isolation.

How Will Your Lottery Help?

The lottery is an important step to help us create sustainable and ‘unrestricted’ income which would allow us to build new projects we feel would benefit people with complex needs in Nottingham City.

In a challenging fundraising landscape, in the midst of the Covid-19 lockdown, the Weather Lottery is an excellent way of contributing a small amount to a worthy cause whilst giving a chance to win a jackpot!
